The final step necessary to obtain your instruction permit is passing a knowledge test on road rules, safe driving techniques, and identification of road signs. To practice for your knowledge exam, use our Cheat Sheets!

Minnesota Motorcycle License

In order to obtain your Minnesota motorcycle instruction permit, you must possess a valid driver's license. If you are licensed, you can then take a written knowledge test at a certified driver examination station. This test covers traffic laws, safe riding techniques, and road signage identification. Please note, however, that if you are under 18 years of age, you will also have to present a certificate of completion for a state-approved motorcycle rider training course. Once your permit has been issued, you will be granted limited driving privileges.

Commercial Driver's License

After you've reached 18 years of age, you can apply for a Minnesota commercial driver's license (CDL) permit. Until you are 21 years old, however, you will be limited to driving within the State of Minnesota. Being mindful of this will give you realistic expectations for the job opportunities that will be available to you once you become licensed.

There are three types of commercial license issued in the State of Minnesota: Class A, B, and C. You should know the differences between these classes, as being licensed in one class does not necessarily mean that you will be able to drive another class. When you self-certify what type of vehicle you plan to operate, you will be able to choose the license type that is right for you.

To apply for a CDL permit, you must pass a written knowledge test for the specific type of license you are seeking. Additionally, if you are getting endorsements (air brake, passenger, hazardous material, etc.), you will have to take knowledge tests for each of these as well. With our Cheat Sheets, you can study for your exams (or your MN driver's license practice test) and retain the knowledge needed to pass your tests. Download it on your phone as a PDF and you'll always have the answers, right at your fingertips!
