South Carolina Motorcycle License

There are two types of two-wheeled vehicle licenses in South Carolina: Class G for mopeds and Class M for motorcycles. With a Class M license, you can also operate Class G vehicles, but a Class G license limits operation of mopeds only. Before applying for your motorcycle license or beginner permit, be sure that you know which type of license you require.

You can apply for a Class G learner's permit at age 14. To apply for a Class M learner's permit, you must be at least 15 years old. If you have a Class M or Class D license, you can operate a moped without a Class G license. To obtain your learner's permit for a Class M license, you will have to pass a knowledge test covering traffic laws, safe riding techniques, and road signs. Using our Cheat Sheets, you can pass your knowledge test with ease!

Commercial Driver's License

In order to get a commercial driver's license (CDL), you must be at least 18 years old. Until you reach 21 years of age, you will be limited to driving within the State of South Carolina. In order to obtain your CDL learner's permit, you will have to self-certify the type of vehicle that you will be driving as well as how you intend to use your CDL. The type of vehicle that you plan on operating will determine what class of commercial license you require.

Once you have declared the type of commerce, you will take a written general knowledge test for your license type. This test will cover a variety of topics, including road rules, safe driving techniques, and issues that relate specifically to operating a commercial motor vehicle. If you plan on adding any endorsements to your CDL, such as an air brake or passenger endorsement, you will also have to take separate tests for these.

You can practice for these knowledge tests by taking a South Carolina driver's license practice test. You can also use the South Carolina Commercial Driver License Manual, but at nearly 200 pages in length, making your way through it can be a bear. So ditch the text book and start cheating, with our Cheat Sheets! With all of the info that you need right at your fingertips, studying with our Cheat Sheets is a breeze!
